Eastern Cup-Saturday Update..

It was a great today in Stowe for the first Eastern Cup of the year. Top skiers from the east and nationally took part in the race. Strong college programs including Dartmouth, UVM, Middlebury, UNH, St Lawrence, along with top clubs and academies were in attendance. After 6 inches of snow on Friday night, the conditions started off with "baking powder" snow. The kick wasn't bad but nothing was working great. As the day progressed, the conditions improved. Taking part in the race were current MCN skiers Melanie Ross, Ian Moore, Nate Niles, Sam Humphries, Molly Susla, and Adele Espy. Some alumni, Amy Lones (Colby) and Holly Whitney (Williams) were along as well. Top results were Sam Humphries finishing as the 6th J2 qualifier, his best finish ever, and Adele Espy finishing 11th overall in the qualifying. They both progressed into the finals of their heats with Sam finishing fifth in the J2 final and Adele finishing 2nd in the B final. Everyone put in a great effort and I think that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

For tomorrow, there is a 5k/10k skate planned. Lots of snow in the forecast as the course should be a challenge with lots of snow expected. I'll post some photos when getting back to Maine.
