Great Day Sunday

The second day of the Stowe Eastern Cup, the skate portion, took place in a massive snow storm on Sunday. The day was exciting with many of the East's top competitors on sight. Some wisely opted to leave Sunday morning to try to beat the snow storm. Racing Sunday were Sam, Adele, Molly, Nate, and Ian. The conditions were challenging with lots of soft snow falling. More challenging was the course, lots of long uphills that we don't see in Southern Maine.

One highlight was Adele's race. She finished third overall, beating some of the nation's best and is setting herself up for a successful senior nationals appearance in Anchorage next week. She serves as a great roll model for everyone. Guts gets success in ski racing. Here is the dialog that I had with her immediately following the race Sunday:

me: "You looked fast out there! How do you think it went?"
Adele: "I started to tasted blood at the end, that usually means that I raced well..."

Sam had a great weekend, he finished 5th on Sat and 7th on Sunday. He has shown tremendous improvement and keeps gaining confidence.

Molly had her most successful Eastern Cup ever on Sunday, she finished as the 8th J1. She worked really hard this summer and it shows!....also check out her photos below from Saturday.

Nate Niles did the brutal course twice in Sunday (10k). He developed some great experience at the J1 level and has established a solid baseline for the rest of the season.

Ian Moore had a great Sunday. Racing as a J3 (13 yrs old) in the J2 class (14 & 15 yr olds), he finished 18th on Sunday. This was a solid result and he's sure excited!

It was a great event. There was lots of travelling but everyone had a blast!

Special thanks to all of the parents helping out with photos, waxing, logistics, coffee runs etc!!

There will be no practice this weekend. We will have some practices next week starting Monday, Dec 29th. Once we get through the weather this week I'll put out a schedule.

Have a great Holiday!!

Sam, Molly, and Adele, good luck in Anchorage for the Biathlon Nationals and Senior Nationals!
