Week of 1/5 Update

I hope everyone had a great holiday break.  I know that most teams took trips to where there was snow.  Here are a few random tidbits.

Sam Humphries and Molly Susla should be congratulated on their terrific performances in Anchorage at Biathlon Nationals!  Adele Espy is out there this week but two races have been cancelled thus far because of the extreme cold.  When things warm up, she is going to be impressive!

The skiing (backcountry) is pretty good at Bradbury State Park.  If you have waxless rock skis, there is no shortage of skiing.  Hopefully this won't need to be an option after the snow this week.

We'll practice this week on Sunday, from 9:00a-11:00a at Pineland.  We'll skate and we'll meet at the Oak Hill trailhead.

The Eastern Cup in Rumford is next weekend, 1/16 and 1/17.  I would really like to see full participation.  This is a great opportunity to get out of the comfort zone and compete against some of the best.  You'll come back to Southern Maine ski racing as a much better racer.  See all details at www.nensa.net.  Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm pretty busy over the next few weeks.  The youth skiing program has started.  At last count, we were at 84 skiers..a record by far!  If anyone wants to help out Tuesdays and Thursdays let me know.  This is very satisfying and will help fuel the sport for the next several years.

Have a great week!
