Week of 12/10 Update

Practice This Week:
Practice this week will be on Thursday, 3:30pm-4:45 at Pineland. We will meet at the Oak Hill trailhead. We’ll classical ski. I’m not sure what the forecast is for Thursday, we may end up doing a fair amount of double poling. The intensity will be easy with the race this weekend. There will not be a weekend practice because of the Eastern Cup.

Eastern Cup:

I hope everyone is fired up for the race this weekend! The skiing will be terrific, the competition will be mighty; it’s going to be exciting! Keep your eye on the www.nensa.net site for Eastern Cup details. I’ll do my best to keep you updated but double check the NENSA site periodically throughout the week. It looks like several people have not registered yet for the race. Please pre-register on the NENSA site. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me with any questions this week.

Saturday: 1k Freestyle Sprint
The individual time trial starts at 11:00 am. The time trial will go quickly so everyone will meet at the race site at 9:00am for wax preparation. I’m hoping to get a heated wax cabin. If this does not happen, look for my truck in the parking lot. The top 12 J2’s and the top 30 J1’s will advance to the heats starting at 2pm. Those who advance to the heats will meet once again at 1:30 for ski prep.

Sunday: Classic
10:00am – J2 boys start for 5k classic. J2 boys will meet me at 8:00am for waxing
10:30am- J2 girls start. J2 girls will meet at 8:30 for waxing
11:00am- J1 women start. Will meet at 9:00 for waxing

Cumberland Youth Skiing Info Meeting:
If you know anyone grades 3-6, please pass this information along:
The NORDIC SKI PROGRAM at Cumberland's Twin Brook Recreation Area will be offered again this year, for Grades 3-6. Both classic and freestyle (skating) techniques will be taught, for recreation and for future ski teams. The program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for seven weeks (weather permitting), Jan 8th - March 6th. Sessions will be held from 3:30PM to 4:30 (ending at 5:00 as the light returns). Each participant will need a pair of Nordic skis, poles, and ski boots.

Parent volunteers are needed to assist, no experience necessary. The fee is $45.00, which can be waived for one child with a parent volunteering. Enrollment limit is based on the number of parent volunteers, to ensure a high quality experience. Parent and skier orientation will be held on Thursday, December 13th from 6:30-7:15 PM at Drowne Road School, Cumberland.
