Week of 10/13 Update

I hope everyone had a good weekend. We had a great turnout for the Saturday practice. Thank you for those who helped out at the Craig Cup race at Twin Brook.

Practice this Week:
We will practice this week on Friday and on Sunday. On Friday, we will meet at Twin Brook from 3:30-5:00. We will do a roller-ski strength (classic) workout. I realize that the participation for the Friday practice will be light. On Sunday, Oct. 19th, we will meet at Pineland. The practice will be the Eyes on the Pies roller-ski race, registration for the race starts at 8:00 at the Visitors Center. The freestyle race starts at 9:00, and practice should end around 10:30.

Roller-ski Race:
The Southern Maine Biathlon Club has put a lot of work into putting the race on. SMBC has been kind enough to split the proceeds from the race with MCN. In return, SMBC needs the support of MCN, both with participation and volunteer effort. I would like to see full MCN participation in the event. We also need parents to help out as volunteers and with Pies. Pies are the prizes. If you are interested in volunteering or with baking some pies, please email Charlie Humphries at Charlie@oceannavigator.com.

Canada Trip:
I’m in the process of making arrangements for the Thanksgiving MCN preseason Canada trip. We will have space booked for eight nights at the Stoneham ski area starting Sat, Nov 22nd and we’ll return on Sun, Nov 30th. There will be three options for the trip:

Session 1: Depart Maine: Sat, Nov 22nd – return to Maine: Wed, Nov 26th

Session 2: Depart Maine: Wed, Nov 26th – return to Maine: Sun, Nov 30th

Full Week: stay in Canada for session 1 and 2.

Please email me by Friday, October 24th with your plans for the week. Last year the half week session cost was approximately $375 and the full week session was around $550. Once I can get a count for the week I’ll be able to give an accurate cost. Parents are encouraged to attend as well. We will need additional drivers and it’ll get you some great snow time if you like to ski. Last years trip was definitely a highlight for many. The snow was fantastic, even with our great season in Maine. The trip enables you to get valuable snow time that will give you a great start on the season.

Let me know if you have any questions. I made the great move of leaving the cell phone on the roof of my car the other day so I'll be without a phone for a few days. I'll be checking the email. Have a great rest of the week!
